Munsiari- Heaven On Earth


MUNSIARI

 Munsiari is located in the Pithoragarh region of Uttarakhand. And it is situated at a height of 2200 meters. Munsiari is the center for mountaineers, nature lovers and tourists. The name “Munsiari” refers to a ‘place of snow’. Day-by-day it is emerging as a tourist destination. Munsiari is situated on the banks of Gori Ganga River.
You have nothing to worry regarding the accommodation facilities in Munsiari. Accommodation will be provided to you as per your budget and requirements. There are several hotels and resorts where tourists can stay.
Various medicinal plants are also found in Munsiari such as Keeda Ghas (Ophiocordyceps sinenses), Timur (Zanthoxylum alatum), Ganjari (Chaerophyllum villosum), Hathajari (Orchis latifolia), and Cannabis. Other than plants you will also get to see here  many rare, endemic and endangered species of birds. Several birds out of them are Spotted Laughingthrush, endangered bird White Throated Tit, smallest bird of Asia Five Breated Flowerpecker, Pied Thrush, Bearded Vulture, Snow Partidge, Hill Partidge, Robin Accentor, European Goldfinch, Mrs Gould Sunbird and many more.

The two main trekking routes of Munsiari are Milam Glacier and Palam Glacier. In this place many people and their families are dependent upon the forest for their livelihoods. Population here consists of Shauka tribe, dalits and Scheduled Castes. people are further categorized in general castes like Kshatriyas, Pandits and very few Muslims, Sikhs, Christians and Buddhists.

 EVENTS/FESTIVALS OF MUNSIARI

Phool De

– This festival is celebrated in the month of March and is basically a festival for young girls. This festival is celebratedas per Hindu Calendar. It is considered to be an important festival of this region.

Olgia

– This is the time when happiness and joy can be seen all around the Munsiari. This festival is held on the first day of August when the fields are lushed with green harvest.

Jauljibi Fair

– This fair is held in the month of November. People from Nepal come here to trade things like horses, oil, etc. This fair is said to have great commercial value.
