Mysterious Lake Roopkund


Roopkund Lake also known as ‘mystery’ or ‘skeleton’ lake is located in the Uttarakhand state of India.  This mysterious lake Roopkund is mainly famous for the hundreds of skeletons found on the edge of the lake. But scientists have revealed that the skeletons were of the local residents who must have been hit by big shaped hail storms instead. What is the story behind Mysterious Lake Roopkund?

Local legend says that Raja Jasdhawal the king of Kanauj went to Nanda Devi shrine with Rani Balampa his pregnant wife, few servants, a dance troupe and some other people. And on their way, they faced a storm and got hit by large hail storms due to which all the people died there itself near the Roopkund Lake.
This place was earlier not known and was not visited, but in 1942 a forest ranger luckily got to discover this place. Everyone who came to know about this place and the skeletons found here were horrified. This Mysterious lake Roopkund has truly haunted mountaineers, scientists, historians and adventure lovers when it was discovered. Since then this place has been a tourist destination due to its mystery. No one knows the actual story of those skeletons.
